Fans, Workers Prep For Championship

June 04, 2007

They had an extra day of work, but they didn't seem to mind.  The Wichita State Shockers beat Arizona 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth Sunday to force a final winner-take-all NCAA Regional championship game against the Wildcats.

With the win, Wichita State employees spent the day getting Eck Stadium ready for the game.  They say they're hoping for even more work with a Shocker win that would bring Super Regionals this weekend.

The ticket office at WSU also had a few hundred extra customers.  The only tickets left were for general admission seats beyond the outfield wall.  Again, Shocker fans didn't mind as long as they got to Monday's game.

"General admission," Connie Beaver chirped.  "We're going to go on the hill on that grassy part over there and watch them take it all."

Early Monday afternoon, the WSU ticket office had 500 standing-room-only tickets left.  By 4:30, the game officially became a sellout.
