Boeing Still Waiting for Final Tanker RFP

August 26, 2008

Boeing still waits to hear the government's final guidelines for the $35 billion tanker deal.

The Pentagon was expected to announce its final Request for Proposal Tuesday, but Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt's office tells us the Department of Defense has postponed today's news conference.

The final RFP will explain specifics on what the government is looking for in its tanker.

In the meantime, Boeing is asking for more time to revise its proposal.  The planemaker says it needs four more months.  If it doesn't get that extension, there's a chance Boeing will not bid at all on the tanker deal.

Boeing is competing with northrop grumman to build the new plane.

The contract is could mean hundreds of jobs in Kansas and in Wichita.
