Search for Adam Herrman Ends Along Whitewater River

January 10, 2009

By Megan Strader (BUTLER COUNTY, Kan.)

Investigators with the Butler County Sheriff's Office, as well as volunteers and search dogs, searched the area along Whitewater River near Towanda on Saturday for any sign of Adam Herrman.

The 11-year-old was last seen in 1999. He was only recently reported as missing. His adoptive parents say he frequently ran away and were scared to report him missing. However, other family members suspect foul play and believe his adoptive parents were involved.

Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy says crews were looking for any indentations in the ground where something may have been buried. They also had a group of pople from the WSU Anthropology Department to help sort out human and animal bones.

According to Sheriff Murphy, the river was searched out of common sense. He says an 11 year old child would likely be curious about the area if he had wondered off and, if foul play was involved, it could be a conveneint place for someone to use.

Sheriff Murphy says nothing of interest was found during the search but that this won't be their last search of the Towanda area.
