BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) - About 50 people gathered quietly outside an abortion clinic in an Omaha suburb, some in protest of the doctor who runs it, others in support.

Among the signs visible Friday morning was one depicting a bloody fetus. Another one said, "Dr. Carhart is a hero."

The clinic is run by Dr. LeRoy Carhart. He has said he hopes to open a Kansas clinic to perform late-term abortions. Carhart says he wants to provide services previously provided by Dr. George Tiller, who was gunned down May 31 in Wichita.

The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue of Wichita said several of its members would be joining the Bellevue protests on Friday and Saturday.

A local spokeswoman for the National Organization for Women said members were going to be in Bellevue to support Carhart.
