A Saturday Halloween Means a Busy Halloween

October 30, 2009

(WICHITA, Kan.)

Before the day even hits, kids are getting a test run. But mixed in with the costumed kids at Friday's Halloween parties you can spot something else, relief among parents.

"It's much easier to not have to worry about anything else but Halloween on Saturday," explains Andrew Ablah

It's been eleven years since Halloween fell on a Saturday. And while it may make things a little less stressful for parents, those living on Wichita's most popular Halloween street know they may need to step it up.

"I'm sure the kids will start coming, maybe even around this time, like before 5:00, and I'm sure it will be a nice big showing since it falls on a Saturday."

This is Chris Och's first Halloween on Broadview Street in College Hill. He says he's been warned about the 3,000 to 4,000 costumed kids he'll see on Saturday and just hopes he's ready.

"The previous owner was nice enough to leave us all the stuff and actually came over last weekend to set up the garage door opener tracks for the spiders."

But I think we all know that Halloween isn't just for kids anymore and there are parts of Wichita preparing for the older trick or treaters.

Bars like America's Pub say they have every possible staff person working, preparing for a weekend crowd beyond their usual draw.

"We've taken extra precautions but this place is big, both sides being filled, we'll get about 1,000 probably," said Marius Ausbie.

And what's Halloween without a costume? Just ask area costume shops if a having Halloween on a Saturday makes a difference.

"Yes, we have been extra busy, it's a lot busier," explains Tiffany Coloka-Ball, Owner of Spirit Costumes.

And why not? It's a day to be whatever you want and do it on the most convenient day possible.
