President's Announcement Won't Impact Augusta Deployment

(AUGUSTA, Kan.)

In less than two months the soldiers of the 223 Engineering Unit, and the crates they're packing, will be half way around the world.

"Once we get over to Afghanistan we'll actually meet with the unit over there and they'll do a train-up with us and we'll get a couple weeks with them. At that point we're on our own," explains CPT. Brian Henning.

The last of the Augusta unit's packing surrounds a big announcement from the man at the top of its chain of command regarding the president's plan for the country they're about to spend the next year in.

"We all joined to serve and the president is our commander and chief and so what he says is what we do."

The engineering company's deployment has been planned for more than a year so Tuesday's announcement won't affect what they're going to be doing, but it could affect all of their futures.

CPT. Henning adds, "As a solder we do want to focus on what's going to be our future mission but whatever he says is what we'll do."

And while what President Obama says may leave questions about what could happen in years to come, the 226 has only one focus right now.

"The biggest thing for us is that we want to do our mission overseas. We were assigned a mission to go over to Afghanistan, we'll do our mission and when it's done we'll come home."
