Hutchinson School Board Considers Cuts

By Jennifer Montenegro (HUTCHINSON, Kan.)

The Hutchinson Public School Board puts together a list of potential budget cuts for the 2010-2011 school year.

The cuts add up to about two to three million dollars and could include pay cuts as well as administrative and staff layoffs.

Other cost-saving ideas include putting off the replacement of aging district vehicles, only purchasing replacement textbooks, and not buying student workbooks.

A final decision on any cuts won't be made until after the state finalizes the 2010-2011 budget.

The Hutchinson district has already cut more than $2 million dollars for the 2009-2010 school year.
