Wichita City Councilman Jim Skelton files to run for Gwen Welshimer's seat on the Sedgwick County Commission.
Skelton announced Friday he'll run for the District Five position, which covers the far southeast corner of Sedgwick County.
Skelton says one of his major issues is overcrowding at the county jail. He says the county needs a long term solution to the situation, but one that saves money in the end.
He also wants to see more done about solid waste issues for the area.
Skelton is now Wichita City Council member for District 3, which is the southeast portion of the city. He was first elected in 2005.
While City Council members earn about $33,000 a year, County Commissioners earn significantly more: about $83,000.
