Cornejo and Sons has been sold to a national company called Summit Materials. Cornejo announced the merger Friday. Cornejo and Sons is a concrete and asphalt company that was founded in Wichita in 1952.
President Marty Cornejo says the beauty of this sale is that nothing will change locally. He says they'll continue working in the same capacity and everyone will keep their jobs. Cornejo says Summit approached them about the sale and it just made sense.
He says Summit Materials is fairly small with only a few employees working on acquisitions and operations. He says Summit is a young and aggressive company with a lot of capitol. Cornejo and Sons is Summit's third acquisition.
Cornejo says this sale had nothing to do with the economy. He says work in this area has been good and he hopes that continues. He says merging with Summit will give Cornejo and Sons an opportunity to do more work out of state. He says they'll eventually be hiring more people for out of town jobs.
