A caller to our Answerback line asks why so many pre-recorded shows are being broadcast with black bars on the top, bottom or sides of the screen.
Although she doesn't specify which shows she refers to, I believe the answer may actually be simple.
KWCH recently converted to High-Definition broadcasting, even during our local news. However, many shows were taped in standard definition which is seen on a differently shaped screen.
As time goes by, more and more programming will be available in H-D, and you won't notice the black bars nearly as often.
