Pediatric Intensive Care
Medical Director: Lindall Smith, M.D.
Wesley's 12-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provides the highest level of care to critically ill or injured children of all ages. Directed by a pediatrician who specializes in pediatric intensive care, the unit's staff include specially trained and experienced pediatric nurses, technologists and respiratory therapists. State-of-the-art technology and design contribute to quality care. Private rooms are available for patients with contagious diseases.
VisitingParents are not considered visitors and are welcome any time.
Visitors should be limited to two people at the bedside at a time. In special circumstances, additional visitors may be allowed. We ask that visitation by other people be restricted during shift changes (7-7:30 a.m. and 7-7:30 p.m.) so that nurses may exchange information and reassess patients.
Children under the age of 12 are not usually allowed to visit in the PICU. However, when a visit by a brother or sister might be therapeutic for the patient or the sibling, arrangements may be made with the nurse for such a visit. Children in the unit or the waiting area must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
