Sioux Falls, SD — The Wichita Wingnuts lost 3-0 to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the game scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, the Pheasants scored three runs with two outs to take the lead. Hunter Jobes hit a groundball off the mound that deflected towards second base and resulted in an infield hit that scored Beau Torbert from third to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Kevin Carby doubled inside the first base bag off the glove of Mario Delgado to score Jobes. Joe Anthonsen followed with another infield hit that banked off the mound to extend the lead to 3-0.
Gabe Medina took another tough loss, falling to 0-3, and was charged with three earned runs in six innings allowing six hits. Medina struck out two and walked three. Ryan Shaver pitched six shutout innings to earn the win.
Brandon Mathes pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Medina. Aaron Cotter pitched a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the series. Jeff Christy singled in the top of the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 14 games in a row. Ryan Patterson's hitting streak came to an end at 14 straight games.
