(WICHITA, Kan.) — Is a Republican candidate for Congress trying to exclude others from forums and debates? That's the claim in the primary race for the 4th Congressional District.
State Sen. Jean Schodorf held a news conference Monday to accuse one of her opponents of trying to limit which candidates voters hear from. Schodorf is referring to a letter from Mike Pompeo to Wink Hartman. It proposes the two of them participate in public forums because they're the leading candidates.
Schodorf is upset the invitation was not extended to all four Republicans in the race. She says the proposal is un-American and goes against the voters.
Pompeo's campaign says it's not trying to exclude other candidates. It just wants voters to be able to hear a one-on-one debate with the leading candidates.
Schodorf says Wink Hartman's campaign gave her the letter. Hartman's campaign has rejected the proposal.
