Farmers asked to burn stubble now

June 30, 2010|By Jennifer Searle | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(SEDGWICK CO., Kan.) — The Sedgwick County Fire Marshal's Office is requesting farmers in the area burn their wheat stubble before Saturday.

The conditions are favorable over the next few days, but it is dry. The fire marshal's office says things are only going to get drier making field burning more dangerous the longer it's put off.

Officials say if farmers don't have time to get it done before Saturday, they should disc firebreaks randomly throughout the stubble to help if the fire gets out of control.
