(WICHITA, Kan.) — Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. hosted a candidate forum for Republicans seeking the U.S. Senate seat.
Republican Congressmen Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt and Tom Little appeared in the live forum from the KWCH-TV studios. Former Kansas Attorney General Robert Londerholm has decided not to participate.
During the 30-minute forum, Tiahrt accused Moran of having voted for amnesty for illegal immigrants. That claim is based on Moran's 2003 vote against a proposal to cut off funding for cities that refused to share information about illegal immigrants with federal authorities.
Moran has said repeatedly that he has long opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants. Moran said Tiahrt is telling stories about him that simply aren't true.
Little says he supports deporting illegal immigrants from the United States. He also said voters shouldn't elect any longtime office holder to the Senate.
The forum was broadcast across Kansas on KWCH in Wichita, KBSH in Hays, KBSD in Dodge City and KBSL in Goodland. It also aired in Kansas City, Topeka and Lawrence.
The forum was moderated by Eyewitness News anchor Roger Cornish and was the only live broadcast forum originating in Wichita. Eyewitness News selected questions for the candidates from viewer submissions.
Following the forum telecast, candidates or representative of the campaign participated in an online chat with Kansans at KWCH.com, moderated by Eyewitness News anchor Cindy Klose.
Sunflower Broadcasting, Inc. will host a forum for the Democratic candidates a week later on July 19. You can start submitting questions for that forum on July 13.
