Reno County haz-mat crash cleaned up

(RENO COUNTY, Kan.) — A hazardous materials scene north of Hutchinson has been cleaned up.

Crews were on scene until five o'clock Friday morning cleaning it up.

Reno County Emergency Manager Bill Guy tells Eyewitness News, the semi was carrying hydrochloric and sulfuric acid.

A semi rolls north of Hutchinson with hazardous materials on-board.

The accident happened Thursday evening near the intersection of 56th & Plum Street.

Authorities have closed off streets in a quarter-mile radius around the scene. They ask that drivers avoid the area for the next several hours.

Reno County Emergency Manager Bill Guy tells Eyewitness News, the semi was carrying hydrochloric and sulfuric acid. There is a minor leak in one of the drums. Hazmat crews are using soda ash to clean it up.

The accident did not occur in a residential area. No evacuations have been made.

A new tanker will be brought in for the chemicals to be transferred over. Then, a wrecker will remove the semi.

No one was hurt in the accident.
