(WICHITA, Kan.) — More people are turning to food stamps to feed themselves and their families in Kansas.
According to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which tracks the number of people who apply for and are using food stamps, more Kansans are using them.
The most recent data, which is from May of 2010, 272,550 people are using food stamps. That's more than a twenty percent increase over last year.
Officials blame the bad economy and the rising cost of groceries for the increase.
I talked with a Wichita woman who uses food stamps, and the Kansas Food Bank in Wichita to find out how people are dealing with the increased need.
