Man left in basement for four days after robbery

August 15, 2010|By Cliff Judy | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police say a man was beaten over the head during a robbery early last week and found Saturday morning in his basement.

The man, who lives in the 5700 block of E. Central, told police two people robbed him on Tuesday and knocked him unconscious. He'd been in his basement with head injuries until police found him Saturday, and he was transported to Wesley Medical Center.

The search for the man began Saturday morning when an officer with the Maize Police Department found his car in the 4600 block of N. Maize Road.  After running the car's plates and not being able to contact the owner, Maize PD contacted Wichita Police to ask for a welfare check.  A Wichita officer dispatched to the home found the man in his basement.

Emergency crews on scene noted the man was "confused and needing medical attention," but he was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The man told police a 28-year-old woman and an unknown man took personal property and his car.  No arrests have been made.

As of late Sunday, the 61-year-old victim was listed in serious condition at Wesley.
