August 26, 2010|By Grant Meech | KWCH 12 Eyewitness Sports

WICHITA, Kan. — It wasn't pretty but the Butler Grizzlies broke away from NJCAA #4 Navarro College, 16-10 to win the Kickoff Classic at Cessna Stadium.

The two teams fumbled three teams in the first half. All turnovers led to scores by either team.

Butler, #6 nationally, broke from a 10-10 tie at halftime when Zach Mettenberger tossed a high fade pass to the corner of the endzone for Marcus Kennard for the go-ahead score.

Then the defense shut the door on NAvarro, collecting a sack and two interceptions in the final three minutes of the game.

The Grizzlies next game is Sept. 4th at Fort Scott Community College.
