El Dorado, KS — El Dorado Lake will be a popular destination spot as the Labor day weekend approaches. While thousands soak in the long weekend, park rangers want all campers to be prepared for all safety precautions.
"You have to educate them to the laws and rules and the regulations of the state parks and the law enforcement" says park ranger Seth Turner.
The biggest safety concern includes looking up all of your personal items at the campsite while on the lake. The Burger family of Wichita has camped at El Dorado Lake for the past five years. “"We keep all of our stuff locked up when we are on the boat. We never had any problems out here" says Judy Burger. The family says park rangers and law enforcement on the water have always been helpful reminding campers of potential camping thefts.
Officials are saying fun comes in simplicity this weekend. They say to simply use the rules you would use at home and apply them to the campground. That means locking your stuff up at night and treating other campers with common courtesy.
