{MANHATTAN, KS} — Kansas State added a second exhibition game to its 2010-11 men’s basketball schedule on Wednesday, as the Wildcats will open their highly-anticipated season against Division II Newman University on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
The exhibition gives K-State 19 home games in 2010-11, including five consecutive to start the season. The 19 contests are the second-most home games in school history and the most since the 2008-09 squad played 20. This also marks the first time since 2005-06 that the Wildcats have played two exhibition games.
Newman, under the direction of all-time winningest coach Mark Potter, returns four starters and nine lettermen from a Jets’ team that posted an 18-10 overall record and a second-place finish in the Heartland Conference with an 11-5 mark. The 18 wins are the most for the school since moving to the Division II level in 2008.
The Wildcats will play Washburn in their second exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 7 before officially opening the season on Friday, Nov. 12 against James Madison in the opening rounds of the CBE Classic on ESPNU at 8 p.m. CT.
Kansas State is coming off a record-breaking season in 2009-10, in which, the Wildcats won a school-record 29 games and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1988. The squad returns five players with starting experience, including preseason All-American Jacob Pullen.
Complete game times as well as the FSN Kansas City television schedule will be released at a later date.
