Last and most importantly: Two years ago Edwards had been drinking with then Cleveland Browns teammate Dante Stallworth just before he struck and killed a person while driving home. Apparently that's not sobering enough for Edwards.
If you're a K-State fan - aren't you a little worried about running back Daniel Thomas under the weight of his work load? Then again - I'm pretty sure that the senior would also play on defense if he were asked.
The next time you're at a KU game, lock in on linebacker Justin Springer for a few series. Not only does he play hard, but he plays well. He has an eye for the ball and an appetite for the runner. He's my favorite Jayhawk.
Who cares how the Chiefs got to 2-0. There are no style points in the NFL - though it would be nice to see in KC - don't hold your breath. Head coach Todd Haley all but admitted this week that for his team to win it would have to win ugly. I'm pretty sure that Chiefs' fans will take that over losing pretty.
Baseball is always overshadowed by football this time of the year, but this season is already better before it even starts. The Turner Networks, which have the opening rounds, has announced that broadcaster Chip Carey will not be on any of the games. I know I sound petty, jealous and a little envious of Carey's station in life, but sometimes the fruit does fall far from the tree. Now I know how people feel when they find out Jenn Bates is doing the sportscast instead of me.
Early returns on the preps? All the usual suspects are lining up. It's about the program at Hutch, Heights, Carroll, Andale, Conway Springs, Garden Plain and Collegiate. Head coach Tom Young continues to develop one at McPherson much like he had at Derby, but the party crasher is Hutch Trinity. Sean Racette, in just his third year, can really coach. Of course it helps when your kid is such a talented quarterback. Senior Derek Racette has thrown 15 touchdown passes in just three games, even I can do that math. The Celtics don't have the depth of a Conway, Garden or Collegiate, but they're players in 3A. Which, by the way, is dominated by the western part of the state. Throw in Scott City, the only team to push Collegiate last year, and you've got five of the best six 3A teams in Kansas. As of right now, Silver Lake is really all the other half of the state can counter with.
