(WICHITA, Kan.) — The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department and Wichita Police Department conducted a sex offender registration sweep Thursday.

During the sweep, eight sheriff's deputies and eight Wichita police officers went to the homes of 197 sex offenders in the Wichita area. The locations were given by registered sex offenders as their home addresses, and officers wanted to verify they lived their.

The Sheriff's Department says, during the sweep, they found 17 sex offenders had moved and not reported a new address, never lived at a given address or reported a false address. Officials say offenders that fail to register, or give false information, could face charges.
