177 speeders ticketed on Rock Road

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police say 177 speeding tickets were handed out during special traffic enforcement on Rock Road Wednesday.

Officers from six different agencies helped patrol different areas of Rock Road for 24 hours. They were looking for things like speeders and drunk drivers.

Here are the number of violations for the entire operation:

  • Speeding: 177
  • Seat Belt Violations: 81
  • Turn Violations: 33
  • No Proof of Insurance: 33
  • DUI: 3
  • Registration/Tag Violations: 14
  • Drivers License Violations: 12
  • Stop Sign/Light Violations: 11
  • Other Violations: 23
Wichita Police say, along their part of Rock Road, the highest speeds were a driver going 63 in a 40 mile per hour zone on south Rock Road and a driver going 58 in a 40 on north Rock Road.

Drivers, be extra careful if you're driving on Rock Road from Bel Aire to Mulvane today.

Officers from Bel Aire, Wichita, Derby, Mulvane, Sedgwick County and the Kansas Highway Patrol will start a 24-hour traffic enforcement project all along Rock Road.

Law enforcement will be looking for violations like speeding, not wearing a seat belt and drunk driving.

This is the first combined project like this in the metro area.

So far this year, two intersections along Rock Road are among the Wichita Police Department's most dangerous intersections. Those intersections are Harry and Rock, which has had 30 accidents between January 1st and September 1st, and Central and Rock which has had 23.
