Sedgwick County Health Dept. begins flu shot clinic

October 07, 2010|by John Boyd | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan.) — The Sedgwick County Health Department is gearing up for flu season. The department says flu shots are quick, affordable and easily accessible…and they can save a lot of hassle and discomfort later in the winter.

“Our goal is to make this process as easy as possible,” said Sedgwick County Health Department Director Claudia Blackburn in a press release. “Vaccination is the best tool we have to reduce influenza’s impact on individuals, schools and businesses. But it’s only effective if people are going out and getting the shots.”

The Sedgwick County Health Department says everyone age six months and older should get a flu shot, including those who received the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine and those who contracted H1n1 or seasonal flu in 2009. 2010 flu vaccination protects against three viruses (H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus). These are expected to be the three most common strains this season. Protection typically lasts about a year.
