(McPHERSON, Kan.) — A 63-year-old Wichita man is in custody in McPherson after a domestic disturbance Thursday. The McPherson County Sheriff’s office says it started when the man went to his ex-wife’s house in the 1600 block of 15th Avenue.
When deputies approached him, he broke into the house and barricaded himself in a bedroom and fired a single shot through the door.
McPherson’s Special Response Team was called in. Officers deployed gas canisters through the bedroom window. The man then took off through another window.
The Kansas Highway Patrol used an aircraft to help find the man, who was then taken down by a KHP K-9 unit.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, then booked into the McPherson County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated burglary, felony obstruction and criminal damage to property. He’s being held on $22,600.00 bond.
