Wichita aviation sub-contractors may export to China

October 18, 2010|By Kim Hynes | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — China is interested in plane parts built in Wichita. The China Aviation Industrial Base or CAIB sent a delegation to Wichita Monday. The group is meeting with the Kansas World Trade Center about potential exporting options.

President and CEO of the Kansas World Trade Center Karyn Page says China has a booming aviation industry but they don't have many suppliers. The CAIB delegation will spend much of their time in Wichita meeting with aviation sub-contractors.

Page says the sub-contractors already make parts for all of the big aviation companies, so it makes sense to transition into the Chinese market. She says there are always risks with new opportunities, but this is something the Wichita community can't pass up at this time. She says if all goes well, local sub-contractors could be exporting to China in about a year.
