Late score downs Thunder at home

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Thunder lost 5-3 to the Allen Americans at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night.

Nino Musitelli broke a 3-3 tie with 1:57 remaining in the third period. Colton Yellow Horn sealed the game for Allen with an empty net goal with two seconds left.

Allen took a 1-0 lead at 2:07 in the first period when Nino Musitelli snuck a rebound from Dave Bonk past Ian Keserich. Wichita tied the game at 3:24 on a goal from Chris Greene. Greene buried a backdoor pass from A.J. Gale beyond the left of Americans' goaltender Chris Whitley. At 9:44, Jesse Bennefield finished off a bouncing puck that snuck behind Whitley following Kory Scoran's slapshot from the blue line.

In the second period, Allen center Bruce Graham scored twice in a span of 2:09 to give Allen a 3-2 lead, but Wichita tied the game with under a minute left on another power play goal from Bennefield.  This time Daniel Tetrault faked a slapshot during a five-on-three before passing to Bennefield who beat Whitley over his left shoulder.

Keserich saved 23 of 27 in the loss.  Whitley earned the win, saving 31 of 34. Wichita finished the night 2 for 7 on the power play while going 4 for 4 on the penalty kill. The Thunder outshot the Americans 35 to 28 and have outshot their opponents in every game this season.

The Thunder returns hosts Rio Grande Valley on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
