Wichita Deli starts selling bacon after price drops slightly

October 26, 2010|By Dave Roberts | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — For many, it's a delicious addition to a deli sandwich. But for the last two weeks, customers at Cinnamon's Deli were not able to order bacon. That's because the restaurant couldn't afford it anymore.

On Tuesday though, it was back on the menu again. The price of bacon dropped just enough.

"If it increases a dollar to two dollars a pound you're talking a hundred fifty, almost two hundred dollars if we're selling a lot of bacon," explained Jacob Poindexter, the General Manager of Cinnamon's Deli. "That's per week, per store. So that adds up to be quite a bit." There are four Cinnamon's Deli locations in Wichita.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, the price of bacon is more than $12 a pound. That's more than four dollars over last year.

"Right now it's lowered down to a point where if it can stay here and slowly be moving down again then we're going to keep carrying it."

But if the price begins to increase, bacon will once again be off the menu.
