(WICHITA, Kan.) — A girl is in protective custody after she says she was assaulted, and police found her home alone.

The 14-year-old told police she was walking her dog in the area of Lincoln and Woodlawn around 10:00 Tuesday night, when she was approached by a 16-year-old boy. She told officers the boy kicked her dog and touched her in a sexual manner before she pushed him away and fled.

Police were called and came to the girl's home. That's where they found that her parent has been out of state for the last week. The girl was taken into protective custody.

The 16-year-old has not been found.
