Burn ban list grows

November 08, 2010|By Eyewitness News

(SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan.) — All areas in Sedgwick County are under a burn ban. The ban went into effect Sunday.

Officials say the county is in an extremely dry and dangerous situation and precautions must be taken. No open burning of brush, grass or trash in barrels is allowed until further notice.

Authorities encourage all citizens to take precautions against wildfires and be careful when welding or cutting metal.

A burn ban is also in effect for Barton County until November 15, Harvey, Kingman and Lincoln counties.

But some surrounding counties have not put burn bans in effect. Coming up tonight at 10, Rebecca Gannon explains why some counties have it, while neighboring counties don't.
