Wichita companies busy on Cyber Monday

November 29, 2010|By Kim Hynes | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Today is all about the deals on-line. Millions of shoppers are expected to buy holiday gifts this Cyber Monday. While you shop, there are people in Wichita making sure your gift gets where it needs to go.

"Thank you for calling Ifurn.com, this is William how can I help you today," William Dennis says to one of dozens of customers. Based on the constant chatter in the call center, it's obvious a lot of people need help. "You want that for Christmas," Dennis asks.

Dennis is helping people pick out items on Ifurn.com. They sell furniture and Monday a lot of it was to hold electronics people bought on Black Friday. Owner Tracy Norris says they've worked for months to get Cyber Monday deals lined up with manufacturers. "Some will end today but it's really turned into cyber week," Norris said.

While people in the call center take orders, there are others busy trying to fill them.  "The post office will be happy with us," said Gwen Ottenberg. Boxes don't stay empty long at her toy store Imagine That Toys. "The orders starting coming in yesterday, I think people didn't go to bed," she said.

The toy store isn't even running Cyber Monday sales, instead manufacturers depend on the store to pull items and ship them where they need to go.  Imagine That Toys gets the sale through the large retailer websites as well as its own. Ottenberg says it's a good problem to have this time of year.
