Boys call police after burglars break into home

November 30, 2010|By Robert Marin | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Three 12-year-old boys call police, after they hear somebody break into the home where they were playing.

The burglary happened Monday at a home on west Dora in Wichita. Police say a 12-year-old boy and two friends were playing in the home's basement, when they heard sounds from upstairs.

Investigators say the boys called both 911 and a parent, then got out of the house. The parent called a neighbor, who saw an open window and a car that didn't belong at the home.

When officers arrived, a canine unit was sent inside the home. Investigators say the dog found a man who was hiding in a closet. That 24-year-old man was bitten by the dog, but not seriously hurt. He was later interviewed and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.

Investigators say a possible second suspect got out of the home before officers arrived. They are asking for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday to call police or CrimeStoppers at 267-2111.
