Tulsa rips Thunder at home

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Thunder lost 7-4 to the Tulsa Oilers at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the second, Harrison Reed put the Oilers in front with a power play goal at 7:06, driving in a slot rebound to the right of Peter Delmas. Jack Combs made it 4-2 Tulsa with another power play goal at 8:37. Troy Schwab narrowed the gap to 4-3, beating Oilers' goaltender Ian Keserich from close range at 10:15.

The Oilers padded their lead in the third, scoring three times. Michel Beausolei was the beneficiary of a bouncing puck from behind the Thunder goal line that trickled past Marc-Antoine Gelinas at 3:14. Derek Hulak finished off a two-on-one play with help from Gary Steffes at 12:05 to make it 6-3. Robin Richards pulled the Thunder back within one, scoring on a backhand shot that snuck behind Keserich at 15:58, but Evan Kotsoplous iced the game with a shorthanded, empty net goal with just over 48 seconds left on the clock.

The teams battled to a 2-2 tie after the first period. Marty Standish poked in a second rebound past the right of Peter Delmas at 1:58 for the first goal of the game. A.J. Gale lofted a power play shot over the left shoulder of Keserich from the near hashmark at 4:24 to tie the game. Kory Scoran gave Wichita a 2-1 lead at 7:38, firing a long shot from the left side of the blue line that bounced low past Keserich. Tom Dignard re-tied the game with a power play goal at 14:59.

Wichita was 1 for 7 on the power play while the Oilers went 3 for 5. Gelinas subbed for Delmas following Combs' goal in the second period. Wichita's 10-game home point streak came to and end. Wichita outshot the Oilers 37 to 27.

Fans threw 795 teddy bears onto the ice following Gale's first period goal for the Thunder's annual Teddy Bear Toss. All bears will be donated to charity.

The Thunder heads to Tulsa for a 7:05 p.m. match on Tuesday night.
