Local solar company can "hide" equipment

January 28, 2011|By Dave Roberts | KWCH 12 Eyewitness News

(NEWTON, Kan.) — Jaime Ontiveros started Access Energer about two years. When he started it, he was recently laid off and didn't know what his next move would be.

Access Energy is one of many in Kansas that installs solar panels and tubes on homes and businesses. Ontiveros says that by collecting the heat generated from the sun, people's energy bills are lowered. He even installed them on the awning over his building.

"It was a more natural use of an awning that most busineses have. They're just sitting there giving you shade, but now you can not only get shade, but you can produce energy and save yourself money."

He says the tubes on the awning blend into the building and are effectively hidden.

"We try not to come in and put something so obtrusive that makes it ugly."
