Thunder come back to win in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio — The Wichita Thunder defeated the Dayton Gems 4-3 at Hara Arena on Sunday evening.

Lance Galbraith and A.J. Gale scored 12 seconds apart, turning a late one-goal deficit into a 4-3 lead.

With Dayton leading 3-2, Galbraith scored to the right of Gems' goaltender Jeff Jakaitis on a rebound during a Thunder power play at 16:47.  With the teams back at even strength, Gale struck at 16:59, cashing in his own rebound in front of the crease, again to Jakaitis's right side.

Matt Robinson snapped a 1-1 tie 28 seconds into the third with a power play goal, but the Gems moved in front on goals from Matthew McCue at 5:21 and Mike Vaskivuo at 15:41.

Aaron Davis broke a scoreless tie at 5:20 in the second period, banging in a backdoor pass from Matt Robinson on a Thunder power play.  Jonathan Ornelas tied it at 15:20 in the period, cutting through the slot and shooting over the left shoulder of Marc-Antoine Gelinas from just inside the left circle.

Gelinas stopped nine of nine in the opening period to keep the game scoreless.  Gelinas made a key stop on a Mike Vaskivuo breakaway attempt midway through the frame.

Gelinas earned the win, saving 23 of 26.  Jakaitis took the loss, saving 29 of 33.  Wichita was 3 for 8 on the power play while going a perfect 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.
