(WICHITA, Kan.) — Some are questioning a prayer vigil at a Wichita school. An anti-abortion group held a meeting at Coleman Middle School Friday night.
The district said earlier in the day that it wasn't endorsing the group, it let it rent the building. USD 259 said the group went through all the proper procedures and paperwork to have the building for the night.
"We have churches that use our building every Sunday, we have scout troops that use them every week, so it something that we provide for the community and this is one of the groups that decided to take advantage of that," said spokeswoman Susan Arensman.
Coleman is near the church where abortion provider Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed by an abortion opponent.
The district says the anti-abortion group didn't purposely pick that location. It originally asked for another school, but it's already booked for the night.
