Shockers open season with 5-0 shutout

(WICHITA, Kan.) — On one of the biggest days for Shocker fans, the baseball team opened the 2011 season with a 5-0 shutout of the University of Niagra.

Tim Kelley pitched a five inning shutout for Wichita State (1-0), striking out six, in front of 3200 fans in great February weather.

Catcher Chris O'Brien went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's. Don Lambert also drove in two runs in the win. Bryan Flynn came in to relieve Kelley, striking out two.

Shockers improved to 26-8 in home openers and undefeated in games in February.

WSU plays Niagra Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
