WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State baseball student-athlete Charlie Lowell has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week for the opening weekend of play.
Lowell, a junior left-hander from Old Monroe, Mo., earned the win on Saturday against Niagara. He pitched five shutout innings and allowed just one single while walking none and striking out seven.
The only baserunner he allowed in his five innings was a single in the second inning. He struck out at least one batter every inning and struck out two in the first and fifth inning. With his five shutout innings, he has now thrown 26.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run.
It is the second Pitcher-of-the-Week honor of his career.
