Missouri State defeats the Shockers 69-64

winning the MVC regular season title

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Adam Leonard hit a 3-pointer with 48.2 seconds left to break the game's only tie and lead Missouri State to a 69-64 win over Wichita State on Saturday and its first regular season Missouri Valley Conference title since joining the league two decades ago.

Leonard scored 17 points and hit 5-of-10 3s to lead four Bears in double figures. Jermaine Mallett added 18 points, and Will Creekmore had 13. Kyle Weems scored 11 points and added nine rebounds for Missouri State (23-7, 15-3), which is seeking its first NCAA tournament bid since 1999.

David Kyles connected on 5-of-9 shots from long range and scored 20 points for the Shockers (23-7, 14-4). The teams could meet again next week in the conference tournament in St. Louis.

Missouri State defeats the Shockers 69-64, winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title for the first time.

Jermaine Mallett scored 18 points and Adam Leonard had 17 to lead the Bears. David Kyles of Wichita State led all scorers with 20 points but he was the only Shocker in double figures.

Missouri State will be the number 1 seed in next weeks Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Wichita State will be the 2 seed. The tournament begins in St. Louis on Thursday, March 3rd.

Mssouri State leads by 4, 68-64 with 19 seconds remaining.  They also have the ball and are at the line.

Shockers just tied the game with a 3-pointer. 64-64 with under a minute to play.

Joe Ragland just went 2 of 2 from the line. The Shockers trail by 2, 63-61 with 1:36 to play.

Joe Ragland just hit a three pointer from the corner cutting the Bears lead to 4. 60-56 with 2:06 to play in the 2nd half.

The Shockers are battling back. David Kyles just hit a long 3-pointer cutting the Bears lead to 6. It's 53-59 with 3:25 to play.

The Bears are out rebounding and have more assists than the Shockers in the second half.

WSU is now 3-12 from 3-point range thanks to a long chance by Graham Hatch.

Missouri State is also winning at the foul line. WSU is 7-7 from the foul line.

The Bears are coming back to life thanks to Kyle Weems. He has eight points so far and the Shocks are down 10, 46-36 in the second half.

On the bright side, WSU finally hit a 3-pointer when David Kyles connected from long range.

WSU still hasn't hit a 3-pointer but has cut the deficit to eight behind the play of Toure' Murry.

WSU is 0-6 from 3-point range and trail by 11 at halftime, 32-21 in Springfield, Mo.

Bears are 7-11 from the foul line and the Shocks are 3-3 but still trail with ten seconds to play in the first half, 32-21.

WSU is yet to hit a 3-pointer against Missouri State and trails, 30-19 with just over a minute to play in the first half.

Shockers stripped at midcourt by Missouir State and the easy fastbreak bucket puts WSU down 26-16 with five minutes to play in the first half.

WSU hasn't hit a three point shot all game, while MSU is hitting 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Missouri State is hitting shots from all over the court, increasing their lead over WSU.

Shocker are defending the 3-point line and David Kyles slamed two big dunks to cut the deficit to four points, 16-12 at the nine minute mark.

Hitting outside shots, the Bears jumped out to a 10-4 lead over Wichita State after the first five minutes.

The Shockers missed on their first possession when Joe Ragland turned the ball over.

This is the first time in over 20 years that the Missouri Valley regular season title will be decided head to head on the final day of the regular season play.
