Pedestrian dies following accident at busy Wichita intersection

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Update:

A 56 year old man hit by a truck while walking on a sidewalk dies from his injuries.

The accident happened at 2:40 Friday afternoon at the intersection of 21st St. & Maize Rd.

Wichita Police say the driver of a van was North bound on Maize Road, attempting to make a left turn.  At the same time, a truck was South bound on Maize, and hit the van.  The truck continued going, jumped the curb, and struck the pedestrian.  The truck kept going through some bushes and into a parking lot, hitting 5 vehicles.

The pedestrian was transported to Via Christi St. Francis in critical condition.  The 56 year old man was pronounced dead at 2:47am on Saturday.

The driver of the van & a passenger were also transported to Via Christi St. Francis in serious condition for treatment.

The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries.

Three people are hurt, two of them seriously, after a crash at 21st and Maize Road Friday afternoon.

Police tell us a red truck was headed south on Maize when it tried to make a yellow light. At the same time, a van was trying to make a left while across Maize going north.

The truck struck the van, then shot off through some bushes into a parking lot, striking a pedestrian and several parked cars.

The driver of the van and the pedestrian suffered serious injuries, the truck driver was not seriously hurt.

The accident is under investigation.
