(WICHITA, Kan.) — Firefighters battled a fire at the former Joyland Amusement Park in south Wichita Friday night.

The fire started just after seven o'clock. It took about an hour to put the fire out.

Crews on the scene say one building, a bathroom, was damaged. During the fire, embers spread throughout the park but no other structures caught fire.

Joyland first opened back in 1949. It closed in 2003 and various attempts to reopen it since have failed.

The park has been targeted by vandals several times over the years. A previous fire damaged part of the park in 2009.
