Sedgwick County, Kan. — The fire danger today will be in the “extreme” category with winds reaching over 30 mph and the humidity dropping to a rare 18 percent by 3 p.m. The usual late-winter dry conditions also will contribute to the fire danger this afternoon.
The Sedgwick County Fire Department discourages all burning and outdoor metal cutting and welding this afternoon. If trash barrels are burning currently, please extinguish them as soon as possible. Be very careful when cooking outdoors, or avoid doing so if possible.
Do not drive through smoke that may be spilling across highways or roads, as visibility may be greatly reduced; stop and wait for the smoke to clear or turn around.
