Thunder dropped in Allen

March 12, 2011|By Jenn Bates | Eyewitness Sports

The Wichita Thunder lost 4-1 to the Allen Americans at the Allen Event Center on Saturday night.

Allen cracked a scoreless tie at 18:23 in the first on the power play.  Colton Yellow Horn carried the puck in front of the crease and made a backdoor pass that deflected off of Nino Musitelli's skate and into the net.  After the officials reviewed the call, the goal was allowed to stand.

After Brian McMillan's goal at 4:35 in the second gave Allen a 2-0 lead, Bobby Hughes responded 32 seconds later to bring the Thunder back within one.  Hughes led a two-on-one rush into the slot and scored on a snapshot past the right of Americans' goaltender Chris Whitley.

Liam Huculak made it 3-1 Allen at 10:43 in the third, while Tobias Whelan put the game away with a power play goal in the final minute of regulation.
