(LAWRENCE, Kan.) — KU basketball fans gathered at “The Wheel” a historic on campus bar to watch the Jayhawks attempt to book their spot to the “Final Four”.

The KU faithful was treated to a rude awakening as underdog Virginia Commonwealth University pulled off one of the more amazing upset in college basketball history.  Top seeded KU saw their season come to an end as VCU stunned KU by a final of 61-51.

Eyewitness News spoke to some fans following the loss…most seamed drained from what was an emotional up and down game. Fans were obviously upset and were very vocal about the poor free throw shooting performance put on by KU.

The loss to VCU marks another chapter in the KU upset novel. In recent years, the Jayhawks have struggled with the “Cinderella” tournament teams. Bucknell, Bradley, Northern Iowa, and VCU have all played the small school spoiler role on the Jayhawks. Rock Chalk nation is now becoming accustomed to another phrase, “wait until next year.”
