SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Charlie Lowell struck out a career-high 13 as Wichita State beat Missouri State 3-1 in game two of a three-game series.

Lowell went eight innings and gave up one run on three hits with two walks. Cale Elam earned his first save of the year.

Preston Springer went 3-for-4, while Chris O'Brien and Kevin Hall each had two hits. Don Lambert went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a triple.

The Shockers scored the first run of the game in the eighth. With two outs, Chris O'Brien singled through the right side and he moved to third on a single to right-center by Preston Springer. Johnny Coy then hit a chopper up the middle to drive in O'Brien and give the Shocks a 1-0 lead. Don Lambert then followed with a triple down the right field line to drive in both Springer and Coy and put WSU in front 3-0.

The Bears threatened in the ninth after Lowell walked the first two batters. Cale Elam then came into the game and allowed a single to load the bases and after a sacrifice fly from Brent Seifert cut the lead to 3-1, Elam got a strikeout and a flyout to end the game.
