"I don't think there's a liquor store in town that wants to sell to minors. We don't need the business that bad," said Adams. "I'm upset, you know, with our staff. We try to do a better job. We talk about this all the time. We don't want kids coming in here."
"There wasn't any trickery or deceit. The juvenile went in, requested an alcoholic drink presented their Kansas ID or Kansas driver's license and it was up to the business to verify that the age on that was correct," said Nolte.
Old Chicago restaurant at 7626 E. Kellogg was also cited. Eyewitness News received the following statement from the company:
"The incident that occurred at our Wichita location was an unfortunate event, and those who were in violation have been held responsible for their actions in accordance with our zero-tolerance company policy. The recent violation is the result of an individual's human error and not a reflection of the company's ongoing commitment to safe service. That commitment is best evidenced by the fact that this is the only violation we have incurred since we opened the East Kellogg Road location over four years ago. Please be assured that we are taking the necessary steps to ensure this is an isolated incident."
Wichita Police said the operation was funded by a KDOT grant aimed at enforcing underage drinking laws. The operation began March 1st and continues into May. In addition to Saturday's decoy operation, police have busted two house parties where 19 underage kids were drinking. Nine adults were charged with supplying the booze.
