{WICHITA, Kan.} — Wichita State stranded three runners in the final two innings, falling to Nebraska 5-4.
The Shockers were down 4-0 into the bottom of the second inning when Johnny Coy finally put them on the board. Coy cranked a home run to center field to make it a 4-1 Husker lead. Coy would end up leading Wichita State going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI including that solo home run.
The Shockers added two more runs in the third inning to cut Nebraska's lead to one. Kevin Hall singled up the middle to score Tyler Grimes and Coy sent a ground ball with eyes through the left side to score Chris O'Brien.
Brian Flynn was solid in relief for Wichita State going 4 and a third innings striking out 6 and giving up 0 earned runs. An insurance run for Nebraska in the 8th inning gave them a two-run lead heading into the final two frames for the Shockers. Wichita State would end up stranding three batters in those final two innings, however, eventually falling 5-4.
