Lindley named head coach at Nebraska-Omaha

{OMAHA, Neb.} — Former Wichita Collegiate School head coach Chance Lindley is the newest head women's basketball coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha the school announced today.

This is the first time in the program's 40-year history that they will have a male coach for the women's team.  Lindley replaces Patty Patton Shearer, who resigned on March 2 for personal reasons.

Lindley had spent the last three season as an assistant coach at the University of Arizona.  The 34-year-old Wichita native started his collegiate head coaching career at Barton Community College in Great Bend.  His Cougars finished with a 34-4 record, a Region IV title and finished 4th in the 2008 NJCAA Tournament.

Lindley was named the 2007-08 NJCAA Division I District F Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, the Jayhawk West Coach of the Year and the KBCA Junior College Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

Chance coached at Wichita Collegiate from 2002-06 finishing his career with the Spartans with a 26-0 record and a Class 3A state title. Lindley was named the 3A Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and won the Wichita Metro Coach of the Year award for two-straight seasons.

Lindley began his formal coaching career as the head coach at Wichita Independent High School. He led his team to an 18-4 record in his second season, the best mark in school history and more wins than the school had its three previous seasons combined.
