Stolen car operation found in Planeview

April 27, 2011|by Kim Hynes | KWCH-12 Eyewitness News

(WICHITA, Kan.) — Wichita police recover nine stolen vehicles in Planeview.  Residents tipped off police that something illegal may be happening inside a building in the 3700 block of east Ross Parkway.  Once police started investigating, they found what they call a large scale operation.

Police say the stolen cars were being broken down and sold for parts.  They say it was a large operation run at a professional level.  They spent six hours Wednesday searching the building and towing away cars, trucks, trailers and mopeds.

Some of the items were reported stolen more than a year ago.  Police were able to give some people back their stolen items and say the people were thrilled.

Police are also appreciative that residents stepped forward with information.  They say by working together they can keep crime from happening.
